Following an engineering apprenticeship Mike saw an advert saying “This could be your great opportunity” so he applied. It was in sales and he started as a new process representative in the West Country. Mike is pleased to say he was well trained by that company and soaked up all the information and training that was available.

Within a short space of time Mike was promoted and managed a team of sales people from Lands End to Southampton and Bristol where within a short space of time the team won the company cup for top achievement. This was the first time the award had been received in that region.

Mike was then asked to relocate to the Industrial heartland (the midlands) to manage another team of sales people covering blue chip accounts – the team again won the company cup which was also the first time for that region.

Mike was head hunted and joined a company as a divisional manager covering half the country and then the whole of the country with a large team of sales people and support staff.

Mike has built a number of successful sales teams and he is totally committed and passionate about the need to train and coach people in the field on the job where it really counts. Classroom based training and coaching is beneficial, but to obtain a lasting improvement in performance the training must be reinforced with coaching in the field. Leading by example is the code Mike lives by.

Mike has had a great deal of success in his business life which he will willingly share with you. One of his philosophies is how you bounce back after a set back which measures the quality of the individual.

Mike now sees his role as that of passing his knowledge and experience on to the managers and directors of the future and is often asked to address business audiences up and down the country. He regularly writes articles for magazines and is the author of the highly regarded “Sales Managers Guide, The Secrets of Training a Field Sales Force”.

Mike has been a director of a successful engineering supply company, director of a metal trade’s confederation, Chairman of a trade association, on the board of his local chamber of commerce and a representative on the Regional Assembly. Mike is a also a member or associate of the following bodies: Sales Training Association, Professional Speakers Association , Chartered Institute of Marketing and is on the National Business Link Consultants Register.
